The Rio Dorado Lodge - Patagonia, Argentina
The Rio Dorado Lodge - Patagonia, Argentina

If you are looking for a great vacation, wondering where the fly fishing is best, the lodging is superb, the weather and scenery spectacular, the vacation activities numerous - then come to The Río Dorado Lodge in beautiful Patagonia, Argentina and enjoy it all.

The Lodge & Accommodations:

The Río Dorado Lodge is the only Government rated four star Lodge in Junín de los Andes. It is constructed in the architectural style of Patagonia. The native stone and log construction gives cozy warmth to the rooms, the main lodge, the fly shop and the traditional Quincho.

The double and triple rooms have a generous entry, approximately 400 square feet of space in the bedroom areas and large bathrooms, complete with shower tubs, and heated towel racks. The bedrooms´ large windows provide views of the lovely grounds and access to the wonderful clear air of Patagonia. Special attention has been paid to assure that the queen and king Simmons beds are of highest quality and that all sheets, towels and comforters are of equal high quality. Linens and towels are changed daily while the rooms are being thoroughly cleaned. Laundry service is also available.

Rooms are furnished in traditional Patagonian style but contain all modern conveniences including national and international direct dial and internet telephone connections, DirecTV, refrigerator, and loads of space for clothes, fishing or ski equipment, etc. All of our rooms are non-smoking.

The main lodge is also constructed in the Patagonian style with plantation pine and native stone. The dining area is the central meeting place every morning for the “best Breakfast in Junín” which includes fresh fruit, homemade breads, jams and jellies, breakfast cereal, yogurt, farm fresh eggs as you like them and bacon. Every morning this is available to guests-complements of your hosts. Lunches and dinners can be arranged for guests by request and all meals are home cooked to order and include Argentine wine or beer if desired.

The Quincho is a special gathering place that is uniquely Argentine. In the great walk-in fireplace the traditional “Asado” is prepared. Once a week guests are treated to an “Asado” which features local specialties such as lamb, red stag, young goat or trout all grilled or barbecued in the great fire place. The fine wines of Argentina are a perfect complement to the feast and the relaxed pleasures of an “Asado”.

On the beautifully landscaped seven acre grounds of The Río Dorado Lodge is a large swimming pool surrounded by an extensive patio. The summer days are long and invariably full of sunshine making the pool a perfect place to relax with a swim, a sunbath or a drink.

The Fishing:

Many fly fishermen consider Patagonia to be the finest fly fishing in the world. Home of the legendary Malleo, Caleufu, Chimehuin, Alumine, Collon Cura and Limay rivers and the magnificent Huechulafquen, Paimun, Lolog and Curruhue Lakes, this area can only be described as “Fly Fishing Paradise”. These rivers, streams, and lakes contain great rainbows, browns, brookies, and land locked salmon. Fish of 5 to 10 pounds are not uncommon and fish over ten pounds are often hooked. All the lakes and rivers are crystal clear and afford thousands of miles for wading and fishing.

Fly fishermen sometimes dream about catching big trout on idyllic rivers in total solitude, surrounded by the grandeur of nature, reserved for them alone. This is still possible here in Patagonia in the vast fishing area where one can fish from sun up to sun down and not see another fisherman.

Junín de los Andes is strategically located right in the center of this “Fly Fishing Paradise”. Within 20 miles of Junín are eight great rivers and streams and six magnificent lakes. The vast and spectacular National Park is also only a very short drive from Junin.

Each of the great rivers has its own special characteristics and “best” trout pools. We provide our guests with expert guides who have many years of experience and who know which flies are best and which pools contain the “big ones”. Where float trips are most effective, we provide the very best in equipment and guides. We pamper our guests not only at The Río Dorado Lodge but also on these beautiful rivers, streams and lakes.

Fly Shop:

Located on the grounds of the Lodge is a complete fly shop. All fly fishing equipment and supplies are available at the Fly Shop as well as all the information you may need about where to fish on a particular day and which flies to use. Guides and Float Trips are arranged through the Fly Shop.
