Komaham Lodge - Terrace, BC Canada

No other lodge on the Skeena lies closer to its estuary than Komaham Lodge. This is a big advantage, as the fish are still silver and fresh when they arrive. The spawning grounds are a long way ahead of them, so the fish still have all their incredible fighting strength left. Without a doubt, this is why the Skeena is one of the best salmon and steelhead rivers in the world. Another special benefit is the exceptional; above average size of the fish, hence the name "River of World Records".

Rivers:

Skeena River: Long counted as one of the great salmon and steelhead regions of North America, the Skeena River area is a preferred destination for anglers with high standards. Thanks to the continuous return of the salmon and steelhead, the Skeena is considered one of the best rivers for fishing in the world. The Yellowhead Highway winds its way along the Skeena River from Terrace to Prince Rupert and is listed as one of the ten most idyllic scenic routes (dream routes) of the world.

Kitimat River: Only a one-hour drive from Komaham Lodge, the Kitimat River cuts its way through a beautiful valley to the Pacific Ocean. You can catch Chinook from June first to August first, Coho from mid-August to mid-September. Kitimat River chum are some of the world's largest, ranging in size from fifteen to thirty-two pounds. The Kitimat has a large run of steelhead from mid-March to mid-May.

Kasiks River: One of the best Coho rivers in North America is the Kasiks River. By boat or from shore, Coho are caught using a fly, jig or lure. Over twenty Coho hook-ups per person have occurred many times. A minimum of four people is required for this excursion.

Pacific Ocean: Day trips can be made from Komaham Lodge to Prince Rupert for saltwater fishing. The peak time for Chinook is the end of May to the beginning of August. Coho are landed until the end of September, as well as halibut, red snapper and other bottom dwellers. These tours take place in a secluded fjord near Prince Rupert, or among the island groups close to the Alaska border. A minimum of four people is required for this excursion. Fishing equipment and bait is included.

Kalum River: Only a 20 minute drive from Komaham Lodge, the Kalum River offers exceptional Chinook salmon fishing from mid-May to mid-June and again from mid-July to the beginning of August. Excellent Coho fishing is possible from the end of August to mid-October. Chinook salmon reaching weights above 50-pounds travel up the Kalum River; a new world record is possible here at any time. We fish for steelhead mid-March to mid-May and again from mid-September to the end of October. Guides use both drift and jet boats.

Float Planes:

The Komaham Lodge uses its own floatplane for fishing excursions to secluded mountain lakes. You will be delighted by a flight over our spectacular wilderness. A flight via float plane lets you discover the vast endlessness of the Canadian North. During a stay at the Komaham Lodge, three anglers per week can fly into the northern wilderness for four days and three nights. Nights are spent in a rustic log cabin on beautiful secluded lakes. The floatplane and an experienced pilot are at your service for four days a week. The pilot will accompany you to untouched lakes and will start a campfire for you each evening. Wildlife can be seen every day. Bears, moose, beavers and eagles are your neighbors. Crystal clear streams and lakes nestled amongst fantastic mountain scenery will leave you with a lasting impression.

Depending on the season, you can fish for rainbow trout, grayling, northern pike, lake trout and Dolly Varden. In some lakes it may be possible to catch Chinook and sockeye. So that you are mobile on lakes and chances of successful fishing are maximized, collapsible boats and small outboard engines can be transported via plane. You can catch northern pike up to 30-pounds, Arctic grayling up to 60-cm, and lake trout up to 45-pounds are not rare. Even when you don't catch a world record every day, you have the satisfaction of knowing that only a few anglers have fished these waters. This fantastic wilderness excursion often counts as a climax and high point of your trip. This incredible trip is hardly fathomable: you will experience a place on earth where everything is as it was from the beginning.
