Lough Inagh Lodge, Recess, Connemara, Co. Galway, Ireland
Lough Inagh Lodge, Recess, Connemara, Co. Galway, Ireland

The Lough Inagh Lodge Hotel is set snugly in the aptly named Recess of Connemara. By no means a small house, Lough Inagh Lodge Hotel is dwarfed by the magnificent scale of the landscape. It is a charming country retreat with 12 tastefully appointed rooms, five of them furnished to de luxe standards.

The Fishing:

A favorite fishing location in Connemara is at the point where the Inagh River enters the lakes. These are called Butts and perhaps the most famous of all is the Derryclare Butts – full of the promise of surging salmon and aching arms.

Spring salmon fishing commences in April and peaks during the month of May, with average weights of around 10 lbs and the occasional fish up to 20 lbs. Grilse reach the lakes in early June and are caught until the season closes at the end of September.

Sea trout stocks, which have fluctuated in recent years, normally constitute the greater part of the summer activity. The larger fish enter the system in late June and are caught right up to the close of the season.

The Accommodations:

Lough Inagh Lodge offers you all the comforts and pleasures of an elegant, modern hotel in an old-world atmosphere. Open log fires in the library and the oak-paneled bar symbolize the warmth of Inagh hospitality. You can read and relax too in the sitting room where you can enjoy morning coffee and afternoon tea

And when your long day is over, you'll retire to your comfortable, spacious bedroom which has spectacular views over Lough Inagh and The Twelve Bens mountains. All 12 rooms (5 deluxe and 7 superior) are ensuite, elegantly furnished. All rooms have a television set and a comfortable seating area.

Originally a fishing lodge of the Berridge family, the hotel prides itself on its traditional menus based on wild game, fish, seafood and other local produce.

Additional activities:

For the non-fisher, there is golf, pony-trekking, hill walking, and shooting nearby. And of course, just relaxing in this beautiful location.

The hotel provides an excellent guide book for recommended walks in the area.
