Ireland's wild windswept waters have produced pike of legendary size, several of them exceeding 50lbs. It is the chance of meeting a very big pike, in a river or lough little changed from the time when its ancestors first swam, which really fires the imagination of the pike angler in Ireland.

The Great Pike Fishing Company have been providing clients with service for over 10 years. We are happy to customise your trip to achieve your aspirations and budget. We operate 20 boats in the region, and as well as lakeside access to the famous Logh Derg fishery, also have facilities on several but less well known lakes a short distance away that are barely fished – but known to hold trophy pike.

The Fishing:

The pike is one of the most widespread of Irish fish and pike fishing is as old as Irish angling. Pike are predators, but a big pike is perhaps the greatest predator still living in the wild in these islands. Its physical make up - the smooth enameled body, the great head - has a beauty which no one appreciates more keenly than the pike angler.

Many of the stories of great Irish pike are well-founded and far bigger fish swim in Irish waters than have been caught on rod and line. Sometimes they are seen - by an angler during a brief contact, or while taking wildfowl from the surface, or perhaps in the shallows of a lough in spring when the big females spawn. Such incidents start legends, and stories of great pike are often associated with very large waters such as Lough Ree or Lough Derg. So when the angler is afloat on a wild lough or on the banks of a wide river the idea of a big pike has a special power, because it is here that such a pike can grow quickly and remain unseen until the day it takes the bait..

The Accommodations:

The GreatPikeFishing Company has accommodations based in and around Scariff on the Western shore of the famous pike fishing destination of Lough Derg. The town is located about 35 kms from Limerick City and approx 53 kms from Shannon Airport. It is very easy to find being on the lakeshore route. Winner of the Tidy Towns Award over 10 years ago, this scenic village is a perfect location for the angler who wants to explore the mighty Lough Derg.

Our accommodation options range from Lakeside villas/houses with magnificent views over the lake to a four bedroom Farmhouse close to the village. All of the houses are fully furnished and can sleep from four to twelve anglers in comfort.

The day commences with a full Irish breakfast to prepare you for your day on the lakes, this will be prepared and served in the house at your schedule. The menu for the evening can be adjusted to accommodate each groups individual tastes, but will be typical Irish recipes consisting of a hearty three course meal that is typical of the area and makes use of local ingredients. Soft drinks and juices will accompany the meal, alcoholic drinks such as beer and wine are available for a small charge.
