Salvelinus Fishing Adventures - Spanish Pyrenees
Salvelinus Fishing Adventures - Spanish Pyrenees

Fly fishing on the waters of the Pyrenees, in the right season and at the right spot, is one of the most exciting, challenging and enjoyable experiences for the subtle fisherman. Surrounded by wild, unspoiled countryside, the whole day can be spent without ever seeing another angler.

The Fishing:

Rather than fishing for enormous fish with a sinking line; you will experience the heady sensation of actively and continuously sight-fishing for wild trout from ½ pound up to 2 pounds in size.

The Brown Trout is the most common trout in the rivers and lakes of this area. The Autochthonous Mediterranean Brown Trout genotype, present in these waters for thousands of years, inhabits today, without any hybridization, in many sections of the rivers of the Pyrenees. There are Browns in the mid and lower reaches, sized 20-30 inches (50-75 cm) long.

There are some lakes around 2500 metres (7500 foot) altitude where we can find trophy Brook Trout. Extremely cold water with snow & ice during the majority of the season, allows us to fish inside these virgin locations only from late July to September. To access these areas, we need to walk 5 ½ hours or use a helicopter for the short 30 minute flight.

The lower reaches offer us a variety of Rainbow Trout sceneries. These were introduced in the Eastern Pre-Pyrenees in the 1970’s and in some lost areas we can find wild, very good size Rainbows for more expert fly fishermen.

The Accommodations:

Our Main Lodge is a Hotel with double rooms, en-suite bathrooms and apartments located in the middle of Aren, a small Pre-Pyrenean village of some 290 inhabitants, most of whom are involved in agriculture and dairy farming. Our Rural Lodge is another option. This over 100-year-old rural house was totally reformed in 2007, with stone and wood supporting fronts. It has 4 complete apartments and is located 5 km away from the Church Square of Aren.

The Main Lodge Dining Room is in the Church Square of Aren, close to our Main Lodge. Enjoy our buffet breakfasts and exclusive dinners, with value red wines and a large offer of typical starters. You’ll choose from different options, including meat and fish, as well as a complete selection of typical desserts from Northern Spain. You could test our extra value wines from our reserved cellar with an extra charge if you’re a wine lover. Guests staying at the Rural Lodge will be transported by car to the Main Lodge Dining Room for all meals.
