The Copper River is one of the premier wild rainbow rivers in Alaska; and considered by many, one of the premier rivers in the world. It is a State of Alaska designated "trophy rainbow river" and regulated to "fly fishing only; catch and release." It is this designation that has kept the fishing on the river so outstanding.
Bears, eagles, and one of the most beautiful rivers you will ever see make this trip very special. Expect to catch many fish each day in the 18-20 inch range. The Copper River Lodge is a small lodge that caters to only six people per week. This ensures personal service, and a relaxing atmosphere that is hard to find in the larger lodges of Alaska. You'll find our staff to be very experienced, polite and professional. This is why over 70% of our guests have fished with us before.
We also offer fly out trips to the upper Copper to reach water not accessible by jet boat. These trips do involve an additional charge (typically about $120) but keep in mind that if weather doesn't permit flying you don't pay for it -- unlike the fly-out lodges that charge a premium price whether you fly or not. Additionally, we access the Gibraltor river (about a 45 minute ride) by means of a comfortable 20ft lake boat.
6 nights lodging, 6 days of guided fishing, all meals at the lodge and air transfer from and to Iliamna are included. Airfare to and from Iliamna, taxes, personal expenses, fishing equipment, first and last night’s lodging* in Anchorage, gratuities are not included. *The last night in Anchorage may be optional. “Red-eye” flights departing from Anchorage may be available.
Accommodations at the Copper River Lodge From your arrival on our dock until your departure, you will enjoy an unrivaled standard of personal service. We understand that flexibility is the key to any vacation. If you want to sleep in and fish a little later, or see another stretch of river, your yearnings will never be far from reality. What most distinguishes our lodge from the others is our guest capacity and our professional guide staff. There are only six guests a week at our lodge. Our guides have extensive experience with fly fishermen in destinations as far away as Mongolia, South American, Russia, and of course, throughout Alaska. For them guiding is a profession, not just a summer job.
Whether you are interested in learning to double haul, or in presenting a dry fly to a tricky lie, they will always be qualified and ready to help.
Our gourmet food will leave nothing to be desired. Fresh baked bread, pastries, and rolls complement meals created by our professional kitchen staff. If there is something you crave, or if you have dietary restrictions, just let us know.
