Sugar Creek Ranch Private Waters - N. California
Sugar Creek Ranch Private Waters - N. California

Sugar Creek Ranch has seven lakes up to 5 acres in size nestled in 150 acres of the Ranch. There is nearly two miles of fishable shoreline. Float tubing is permitted on the larger waters. The catch-and-release fly fishing is open year-round. A California fishing license is NOT required when fishing Sugar Creek Ranch waters.

Anglers are limited for your enjoyment, no crowds here! The Ranch is available for day fishing access, or you may take advantage of our modern, spacious and comfortable Lodge or the newly added Guide's House for overnight accommodations.

The Ranch has been operated as a trophy trout catch-and-release fly fishing destination for the last 13 years. Our sexually mature trout have spawned successfully every fall, and the huge wild rainbows and cool gin-clear water provide an incomparable stillwater fly fishing experience.

The Fish:

Our monster rainbows have been spawning successfully every fall for the last 13 years. In addition, eggs and fry from Scott River steelhead enter the fishery through the water supply. The young trout and steelhead which survive to maturity become a formidable challenge to land for anyone savvy enough to hook one. They are big, strong, and display an impressive array of aerial acrobatics.

The Hatches:

While wet flies work well year round, the dry fly action of summer is fantastic! Common hatches include midges, callibaetis, trico, BWO, PMD, caddis, damsels, dragons and little yellow stone flies. Throw in common terrestrials, (hoppers, ants, spiders, beetles, cicada), and you've got dry opportunities galore!

Sugar Creek Ranch is situated at the confluence of Sugar Creek and the Scott River in the Scott Valley of northern California's Siskiyou County. The year-round spring water flowing through the ponds originates in the Trinity Alps and the Salmon Mountains. The "gin-clear" water and abundant natural food allow us to offer the hottest rainbow trout fly fishing you will ever experience!

Directions:

We are one hour NW of Mt. Shasta off Highway 3 a short drive SE of Etna, California. Traveling anglers often fish the Ranch in a trip that might include the nearby Upper Sacramento River and fly fishing waters such as Fall River, Hat Creek, Pit River, McCloud River, Baum Lake and others.

Accommodations:

We have the Lodge Cabin with 3 bdrm - 2 baths and the Guide Cabin with 2 brdm - sgl bath. Guests are welcome to use the kitchen facilities and BBQ to prepare their own meals. Catered meals available. Laundry facilities are located in basement. No smoking, and no pets inside the lodge.

Mary Ann Dozer will be conducting a clinic on the fabulous lakes at Sugar Creek Ranch. For $600 you will receive instruction, lodging & meals. Clinic begings noon Sept 21 and runs through noon Sept 23, 2007. Space is limited. Call ASAP!
