Dream Catcher Charters - Key West
Dream Catcher Charters - Key West

Key West is a fantastic destination for fly fishermen. Fly Fishing is so easy here - novice or expert, Key West has the fishery to entertain both. My approach to fly fishing here at Dream Catcher Charters is to show you the day your way.

The Fishing:

Bonefishing has been a staple for Florida Keys fishing since the beginning of sport fishing. Bonefishing helped put the Florida Keys on the map as the number one sport fishing destination in the world. Found and caught while flats fishing, the bonefish love to be in super skinny waters. Tailing up the flats looking for food, they are also found and caught on the shoulders of the flats as they transverse from one area to the next making an easy target for anglers.

Explosive, Powerful, Acrobatic, exhausting, and challenging are the terms used for Key West Tarpon fishing. Match your desire to catch big fish without the hassle and expense of fishing offshore or deep sea. Come test your character against a Key West tarpon. Ranging in size from 30 - 150 lbs, catching these fish is a memory you won't soon forget. Key West is the best place for Tarpon Fishing in the free world. We have fish here nearly year round, offering our lucky anglers the chance to engage them for battle. We have taken tarpon fishing to the next level.

To catch a Permit on the fly is probably the most challenging form of angling there is. The accomplished fly angler fishing for permit has a tremendous double haul, nerves of steel, and eyes of a hawk. He must be able to go from "fly in hand" to 40 - 80 ft in less than 3 false casts. Permit near Key West range in sizes from 8 - 50 lbs. offering all the lure of big game hunting and the challenges of the toughest casts. The strike is very subtle and the runs are never ending. Just when you think a permit is done they take off again like they just got started. There is no doubt about it - Permit are finicky and evasive.

We also offer charters for the Backcountry, Marquesas, Dry Tortugas, Wreck & Reef, Deep Sea, Barracuda, Shark, Deep Dropping, Groups, and Families. See our website for more information.

Meet your Captain:

Capt. Steven Lamp has been fishing the waters of Key West and the west coast of Florida his entire life. A Coast Guard licensed captain since 1986 he fished and dove offshore, inshore, wrecks and the reef from the Dry Tortugas to Tarpon Springs. Diving was his passion as a competitive spear fisherman and Dive Master. Capt. Steven is also a veteran of the United States Coast Guard, having done his tour at Coast Guard Station Hatteras Inlet NC. as a Heavy weather search and rescue Surfman.

After a diving accident that set him back and prevented him from competitively or commercially diving, Capt. Steven set his knowledge of the Florida Keys and Key West waters to fishing. He then turned full time professional fishing guide in 1995. The approach he has to guiding fishing charters is very unique, reflecting that of a professional. Like a doctor, Capt. Steven takes each client separately and finds out what it will take to help them "Live The Dream."

Capt. Steven is always happy to answer questions about what he does for a living. Writing many articles for different magazines, Capt. Steven loves to share his knowledge with others so that they may enjoy the beauty of the waters that have been given us to play on. He understands that the world he lives in is full of wonder for folks who only get to visit once in a while.
